Announcement Regarding COVID-19 Response

March 24, 2020

Dear Friends and Clients:

We would like you to know that we are still here to support you and help with your legal challenges. We are committed to making it through this difficult time and continuing to provide exceptional legal services to existing and future clients.

As the COVID-19 has forced closures all over the country, we thought it necessary to close our office to in-person appointments. Unless an in-person meeting or signing is absolutely required, for the time being, please know that we will be conducting all consultations, appointments, and conferences virtually, either via phone or video conference, as needed.

Important Legal Development:

On March 14th, 2020, the Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court issued an order declaring a statewide judicial emergency. As a result, this currently means that jury trials for all courts have been suspended for at least a month. As it stands, the Statute of Limitations has also been extended a month for all legal causes of action. Civil and Domestic calendars are cancelled while Criminal Calendars are cancelled or postponed except for some Motions or Pleas. Bench trials, those cases where there is a judge but no jury, as far as we know, are still being heard in Gwinnett but this depends on a case by case basis. We expect that most courts will have similar directives, but there is no guarantee. Please contact our office with any questions or especially if your case is on a trial calendar set to be heard within the next few months. We will let you know individually as needed, if and when the courts issue new directives.

Future Clients

If you or someone you know needs legal services, feel free to contact us via phone. We are working hard to ensure that all current and future clients receive quality service while still limiting face-to-face interaction. We have phone and video conferences available for your convenience.

Moving Forward

While it’s certainly not business as usual, we will do our best to keep all clients updated on court closures and other COVID-19-related issues that may impact cases. If you have any questions about your case or about our firm’s response to the COVID-19 crisis, please feel free to contact us. Stay safe, everyone!

Sincerely,

Matthew McGahren, Esq.
