Gwinnett County’s Rules for Impounding Pets that Bite

If an owner or other person responsible for the care of a dog is proven negligent, Georgia law allows victims of dog bite attacks to recover compensation. In order to be helpful to the victims of animal attacks, we keep current with changes in the law and local ordinances which can affect the outcome of a case. Gwinnett County has some very specific rules we feel people should be aware of to help them stay in compliance:

Gwinnett County, Georgia – Code of Ordinances Chapter 10 – ANIMALS ARTICLE II.
– IMPOUNDMENT, REDEMPTION AND ADOPTION Sec. 10-45. – Biting animals and quarantine.

In accordance with rules and regulations promulgated by the county board of health, all dogs, cats, and ferrets known to have bitten or scratched a person shall be confined to the animal welfare facility, veterinarian’s hospital, or at a boarding facility approved by the animal control manager or under home supervision with the approval of the animal welfare manager or designee for a period of ten days. All expenses incurred for boarding the animal during this period of time shall be paid by the owner or possessor of the biting animal. (CONTINUES…)
